Each year at YCP we commission a past YCP student to come back and compose a new piece for the ensemble. This year we have Charlie (who was both a YCP student and mentor!). This is what she has to say:

2017 was the year I joined YCP as a curious young musician, who wanted to explore the more creative side of music. At YCP I discovered a safe place to explore and experiment with the boundaries of music I had not previously known, all with live musicians! YCP was the catalyst that began my spark for composing which encouraged me to then study at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. 

I look forward to returning to YCP as the commissioned composer 6 years later. It is inspiring to see the enthusiasm and interest of other young musicians starting their journey as composers. I am excited to reflect and tap into my own memories and emotions of joining YCP in 2017 to use as inspiration for this new piece, and explore how my creative style has developed since my time at RBC.
