Rhythm and Pulse: Louis Andriessen – Ende (1981)

Ende by Louis Andriessen

3 Things:

  • Articulation also plays an important part in the piece, as it accents some of the beats in the bar. When the articulation is used in different parts of the bar it disrupts the pulse.
  • Mostly uses ?/16 metre patterns/pulse, the composer does not use any completely unrelated time signatures (apart from the 2/4 and 4/4 time signatures in the final 9 bars).
  • The use of 2/4 and 4/4 time signatures disrupt the ?/16 metre patterns/pulses that had been established in the piece.
