Since it was founded in 1895, the BBC Proms has been committed to bringing classical music to new audiences as well as nurturing the next generation of talented performers and composers. This summer the BBC Proms continues its commitment by offering the young people you work with a variety of opportunities to attend free-of-charge workshops and participatory sessions. We would like to tell you about an exclusive Proms Extra workshop session, curated and delivered by teenagers, for teenagers. Read below for more information and help us spread the word to the young people you work with!
Proms Extra: NYO Young Promoters
Saturday 5 August, 17:30 – 18:30
Imperial College Union (next to the Royal Albert Hall)
Come along to this fun and friendly pre-concert event and meet-and-greet for teenagers – a great chance to find out about the music and musicians featuring in this evening’s Prom. This event is created and delivered by teenagers, especially for teenagers!
This session will be led and hosted by members of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain’s Young Promoters – a group of teenagers who promote and deliver events around National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain concerts. The Young Promoters will be introducing the music you’ll hear in this evening’s Prom in a lively and exciting session – prepare to get involved! You’ll also meet and hear from some of the NYO musicians featuring in the Prom who’ll be there to tell you all about life as a teenager in the NYO. This is an opportunity to chat with NYO musicians and NYO Young Promoters, and discover the stories behind the music and the NYO.
You don’t need to be able to play an instrument or have any musical experience – just bring yourselves!
It’s free of charge to attend this event. All participants are guaranteed a Promming pass for NYO’s evening Prom, which you’ll be able to purchase on the day for £6. Full details will be emailed to you before the event. Places are limited and will be offered on a first-come first-served basis.
